Aggressive surgical resection followed by free flap reconstruction is the current treatment standard for mORN. The fibula free flap offers good bone quality, adequate pedicle length for tension-free anastomosis and the ability to restructure defects with multiple osteotomies.

Background

You may have seen him in the prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars, but two weeks ago, Orn Free Taa returned to Star Wars TV in “Devil’s Deal.” He is working with the Empire to supposedly ensure a new era of peace for Ryloth, though he still views Cham Syndulla as a threat. He seems to be motivated by self-serving interests, which is a little concerning.

This corpulent Rutian Twi’lek was a senator for his home planet of Ryloth during the waning years of the Galactic Republic, where he was known to indulge in corruption. During the Separatist Crisis, he joined the Loyalists in supporting Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine’s fight against Count Dooku’s Confederacy of Independent Systems. Free Taa was a member of the Rim Faction of senators and had strong ties to Jabba Desilijic Tiure.

Despite his corruption, he is a staunch militarist who put the needs of his people second. When the Republic reformed into the Imperial Empire, he retained his seat in the Senate and also kept his wealth.

Despite this, he was an unwilling ally of the Empire in “Devil’s Deal,” when he was shot from his sniper’s perch. After he fell into Jabba Desilijic Tiure’s beast pit, he pleaded for his life with Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu. This made it clear that Free Taa is not one to be trusted, and it’s likely that the new era of peace on Ryloth will be fraught with conflict and violence.

Methods

Senator Orn Free Taa was a corpulent Twi’lek who represented his homeworld of Ryloth in the Galactic Senate. He was a corrupt and indulgent politician who always put his own interests ahead of those of his people. When the Republic collapsed into the Empire, Taa was quick to appease the Imperial elite in order to keep his position of power.

After the Senate passed a no confidence vote in Chancellor Valorum, Free Taa supported the move, hoping that it would lead to his demise. Later, when his homeworld was invaded by Separatist forces, Free Taa sent a message to king Katuunko of Toydaria begging for help.

In the end, Admiral Rampart had Crosshair shoot Free Taa from his sniper’s perch. The sniper had been tracking him to capture Cham Syndulla and his gang. This scene occurred very shortly after Revenge of the Sith and before the canon novel Lords of the Sith was written.

Conclusions

A corpulent male Twi’lek Senator from Ryloth, Orn Free Taa was a leading member of the Senate’s Rim Faction during the final years of the Galactic Republic. Though he was a loyalist and strong backer of the military, his greed and indulgences made him a symbol to the Separatists of everything they saw as wrong with the waning Republic. As the Republic transformed into the Empire, Free Taa put his own needs above those of the people from his homeworld.

He was one of the Senators who nominated both Mas Amedda and Palpatine to the office of Chancellor, helping them gain their power; and he also benefited from his relationship with Jabba Desilijic Tiure. He became worried when his home planet was invaded by the Separatists, sending a message to king Katuunko of Toydaria asking for his help. Lott Dod was against this plea, but the king agreed to deliver supplies and remain neutral.

Although he was not seen in the film Revenge of the Sith, fans who pay attention to canon know that he survived this episode because he is still alive and putting his own interests ahead of the needs of his people in the Imperial Senate. He is the only Senator to survive all three episodes of The Bad Batch, and he will continue to cheat the people of Ryloth for his own gains as long as the Emperor allows him to do so.
