The female nude is one of art’s major themes. It is a topic that shocks and scandalizes, from Botticelli’s reclining Venus to Courbet’s The Origin of the World or Modigliani’s naked women.
Impressionist painters revisited the nude, depicting women from their daily lives. They simplified contours and focused on color, creating energy and vigor in their figures.
2. The Mirrorless Nude
A mirror can be a distraction, so when you’re feeling bloated or sleepy (or both), just ditch it. Jane suggests taking a nude selfie from a low angle that cuts off your head, shoulder, and maybe a bit of cleavage, like “a chaste version of the pouty-lip and exposed-shoulder combo.” For a more boudoir-style shot, drape a robe or bedsheet over yourself and take it while pushing one hip out to highlight curves. She also recommends a half-turn to show off your butt.
This type of spontaneous nude is a fun way to send something titillating to a friend without much advance warning.
4. The Side-Side Nude
When it comes to sexual preferences, there’s no greater stigma than the label “side.” According to sex and relationship therapist Joe Kort, many sides feel othered by their preference—which is why side recognition should be celebrated. Kort describes a variety of factors that can lead to someone being a side, including erectile issues, medications, body image concerns, fear of STIs and HIV, health problems, and more. But all of these reasons have one thing in common: they’re valid.
